An Opening Note

Working with Laotian silk in the early stages of a design project, where concept meets craft.

Welcome to Pietro A. Chiarini Digest, a personal space where art, design, and the beauty of handcrafted objects converge. I first came to Laos for academic research in international relations, yet over time my passion for art, handicrafts, and interior design became the true centre of my work. My years as Artistic Director of Caruso Creations deepened this journey, revealing how cultural heritage and contemporary vision can meet in form, material, and emotion.

This Digest celebrates that evolution, exploring the objects, details, and spaces that inspire me. Here, I share the stories behind craftsmanship, the quiet dialogues between tradition and innovation, the gestures that shape the objects surrounding us.

A glimpse into Pietro’s drawing room, where objects, colours, and textures come together as living reflections of design and memory.

Each issue is an invitation to look more closely, to discover how artistry resides not only in grand works but also in the intimate beauty of what is made by hand. In time, I hope to present the artisans whose skill and sensitivity sustain these traditions across Laos and beyond.

Pietro A. Chiarini Digest is more than a journal: it is a space where visual thought becomes shared experience, where beauty can be felt with both the eyes and the mind.
